The FCC to end Net Neutrality

Ending Net Neutrality will be devastating for small online businesses

Ending Net neutrality is taking away consumer rights to a free and open internet

If you haven't heard already, The FCC is calling for a vote in the month of Dec 2017 to overturn the protections that were set by the Obama administration. These protections were set to protect the consumers against things like selling our browsing information to companies. Other things like slowing down our internet to certain websites and speeding up others. It has also been said that it's the perfect way to control the media. Giving us only information that they want the public to see and hear on the internet.

As of right now, our internet is open and free. Everyone has the same opportunities to start online businesses with hopes of making it to the top. Just look at how many businesses this has happened for. Amazon CEO and the owner just became the worlds richest man this weekend with a net worth over 100 billion dollars. If it wasn't for an open internet would it have been possible for him to do this?

For us, it can affect us by slowing down our t-shirt printing websites and giving top speed to the larger companies and cutting out all the smaller competition. It has been said there will be access fees that will need to be paid to keep your site running fast for our customers. It already takes I don't know about you but I do not think there should be anyone controlling our internet and ease dropping on what were searching for on the internet. It also basically means that network providers could have dealings with certain websites and take out their competition easy.

Things we will be loosing with the end of net neutrality.

  • Protections against companies selling our browsing history.
  • Fast internet
  • Throttling certain website speeds.
  • A set price for the internet

As of right now most of us can get the internet anywhere from $29.99 to $99.99 depending on the speed. Now image paying for the internet in broke down pieces. Such as $14.99 a month for email. $29.99 a month for video. $29.99 a month for gaming. $29.99 a month for social media. Imagine these prices being at a slow speed at that. Then another $99.99 for high-speed access. This is something that net neutrality protects us against.

Update 12/14/2017 The FCC has Voted to End Neutrality

It has come. The FCC has now voted to end net neutrality. The next step will go to Congress. This is very bad news for all that surf the internet freely. The information that you now receive can be regulated like it is in other countries such as China. Did you know that China blocks social media platforms like Facebook and programs like Skype?
